The epicathoplasty removes the epicanthic fold near the eyes. About 90% of the Koreans have small or large epicanthic folds. The epicanthic fold actually covers the front part of the eyes and thus makes the eyes look smaller. Removing of this fold creates larger eyes.
The surgery is relatively simple and takes about 20-30 minutes. There is almost no swelling, and only one revisit to the clinic is required in order to remove the stitches. Recovery takes 3-5 days. There are no scars left during the surgery process.

Lateral canthoplasty , usually performed with front split surgery, splits the tail part of the eyes making the eyes look bigger. No scars are left after the surgery and the distance of the split is usually 2mm. Some people have eyes that allows for a 5mm split, but this depends on how much room one has at the tail part of the eyes.

This surgery creates a bigger eye by strengthening the muscle that is in charge of opening the eyes. The eye lid usually covers the pupil by about 1-2mm, but if the eye lid covers the eye by more than 3mm, taking this surgery will allow ones' eyes to open further. If you have sleepy eyes, or the height of your eyes are short, or if one eye is shorter than the other, you may question the eyelid muscle and consider taking this surgery. This is a highly technical surgery and it's recommended that you take the surgery at a highly professional clinic.
